Is the mount rated for your TV?
Two numbers settle it: the panel's weight without its stand, and the capacity printed on the mount's box. What counts as enough margin is the part worth being precise about.

The spread inside one size is the point of the table: the heaviest 65″ we cover weighs roughly twice the lightest. "It's a 65, get a 65 mount" is how people end up at the margin.
What the rating quietly assumes
- Wood studs. The printed capacity is tested with the supplied lag bolts in solid lumber. Every other wall type is an exception the mount's manual handles explicitly.
- Metal studs are not wood. Thin steel takes toggle-style hardware made for it, and the mount maker's metal-stud instructions — not the wood-stud lags — are the authority. If the instructions don't cover metal studs, that mount doesn't go on them.
- Drywall alone carries less than the box implies. Purpose-made anchors can hold a modest fixed mount if — and only if — the mount's own instructions rate it for that. A full-motion arm on drywall anchors is a lever working on gypsum; no capacity number survives that.
- Full motion changes the load. At full extension the arm multiplies the pull on the top fasteners. That is why the same capacity costs more in a full-motion mount — the structure to keep the promise costs money.
